Short Term Impact

The destruction of Dublin left many people homeless and jobless. The Irish believed they were dying for something, an Independent Ireland. This belief was realized in the British Parliament elections of 1918, which resulted in a landslide victory for Sinn Fein Party (meaning "We Ourselves"). Ireland's vote started the process of becoming an Independent Ireland.

Long Term Legacy

The Rising helped shape what Ireland is today. It inspired people like Eamon De Valera to lead, fight and win the War of Indepedence and the Irish Civil War, eventually gaining total independence for Ireland.
